The office manager's job is to ensure that all of
the departments within a business are running up to standards. As an office manager you
will supervise employees and take care of all of the processes and work tasks which take place within
the offices. You will also be responsible for training employees and making sure that they have a satisfactory level of skill to be working within the business.
The nature of the office managers work may vary, depending on the size and type of the business. Generally larger
businesses with more departments will offer more work for the office
manager and will usually offer a higher salary than the office
manager within a smaller business.
Office manager's usually work a regular 40 hour
week (9 – 5) but overtime may be required, particularly if the
offices are busy and require constant review and supervision.
As an office manager you will be working with
people all day long, therefore the job requires a very energetic and
confident personality. The office manager will hold excellent
communication skills, both verbal and written. You will hold project management
experience, excellent multi tasking skills and be experienced in
advanced IT skills, including the ability to work with Microsoft
Office applications comfortably.
As an office manager you will be responsible for -
- The control of the offices budgets
- Ensuring that the office supplies employees with adequate furniture, stationary and office equipment
- Arranging appointments and meetings
- Completing time-sheet and payroll paper work
- Monitoring and supervising the work of office employees
- Proving management with reports of office performance
Businesses generally tend to employ people who
have a HND or other qualifications in office management and hold a
few years of office work experience under their belt.
Upon attaining employment as an office manager,
most companies will place you on courses such as IT courses, project
management courses and health & safety courses.
