A bank tellers role involves providing customer
service and carrying out routine transactions, such as withdrawals,
deposits, checks and money transfers. You will also be responsible for supplying customers with advice on the different products and services which the bank offers.
A bank teller must count how much money they get
handed at the start of the shift and must count how much they are
left with at the end which must be recorded on a form known as a
settlement. Before being allowed to go home from work, the amount on
the settlement must equal the amount which is left over in the cash
drawer. The bank teller must also keep a record of every process that
they carry out during the day to ensure no corrupt transactions take
place.
General working hours for a bank teller are a
standard 40 hour week (9-5) however, additional hours are usually
required on a Friday due to the large number of people cashing in
their pay-checks straight after work.
As a bank teller you will hold a large
responsibility and will be held responsible for any errors which are
made to client processes. For example if you were to input a wrong
amount of money, the client may end up becoming overdrawn and
accumulating overdraft fees which they are not responsible for.
Bank tellers also have to deal with their safety
due to banks being prone to robbery's. As a bank teller, you must
highly trained to deal with a situation such as a bank robbery.
