As a business development manager, you will
perform various development tasks and processes to ensure growth of
the business, attaining new clients and achieving satisfactory sales.
The average business development manager usually
works standard office hours (9 - 5). Although you will generally work
in an office, you may also have the opportunity to work from home.
Training as a business development manager usually
opens many new doors, which may offer you opportunities to work for
major businesses and can lead to attaining placements in college or
university, to study more advanced skills such as sales manager
skills.
In order to become a successful business
development manager, you will need to posses a great business sense,
strong communication skills (verbal and written), be able to work as
a team or independently and the ability to gain a strong knowledge in competitors
products and services. A very positive and persuasive attitude is required as well as a
professional manner and extremely smart appearance. You will also need to
be able to present to large groups of people with confidence, be
trustworthy when handling personal information and you must enjoy
meeting new people.
Your roles as a business development
manager may include
- Setting up meetings for employees to discuss business tactics.
- Preparing informative presentations to deliver to customers in order to achieve sales.
- Maintaining current relationships with customers to ensure a satisfactory product or service is delivered
- Creating reports and administering accounts to ensure the business is well organised
